E.G. Marshall was a popular television show actor, and it seems radio host. Lurking within him though was an active Righteous Rectangle, sometimes called a cradle, but always looking like an envelope, just like his actual name that he mysteriously never released. I knew him for his deadpan delivery, which was rather fitting for a rather innocuous looking man.
Just E.G.
His name was always E.G. just initials, I guess he thought Gene dull and Everett, his real first name, duller. E.G. was mysterious, as it kept everyone guessing. Ah actors, always looking for an edge and like his rectangle, wanting no one to know what it could be. As for he was emcee for this video of a radio broadcast, I’ve previously never heard of it.
He was from a Minnesota farming family and despite his riches never changed his Minnesota Democratic Farmer-Labour Party affiliation — a socialist political organization formed after World War I. It was a populist progressive party complete with the desire of cradle to grave care including government ownership of important industries, total cradle to grave health care, guaranteed wage. During the Depression, it was very appealing, Democrats try to bring it back in various guises believing it still it, but the Great Boom of the 1950s it lost its élan.
HHH and the Farm Labour Party
Hubert Humphrey, Vice President under Lyndon Johnson, chaired its first convention in 1944 to great fanfare. E.G supported Presidential Candidates Eugene McCarthy and Walter Mondale were all members. One Minnesotan E.G. did not live to vote for, but is also a member of that coalition is Senator Amy Klobuchar. President Johnson adopted many of the Farmer’s plank in his Great Society program. Like the Farmer’s Alliance it was an ambitious program that tried to reduce crime, end poverty, abolishing inequality and improve the environment. Much of that remains the Democratic Party’s plank with abortion-rights added in to appeal to women.
The Righteous Rectangle
You can see Marshall’s interested in the Farmer Party with the massive Cancer preponderance in the ninth house. Being a good proxy for a secular based religion and supported by what Bruno and Louise Huber called the “Righteousness Rectangle”
His Sun is well aspected, showing a strongly confident person. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and here in the seventh which is square in its essential house. Here we see the disconnect between his desire to own and things, particularly money, and his politics. It also shows the roles he had an affinity for: caring men who never got too ruffled about much; he is always the even keel. Uranus in its rulership in Aquarius his affinity for the airwaves. The Black Moon Lilith in the sixth shows that he went into acting as it was easy for him. He had an aversion to hard work, and perhaps why he left the farm.
is ascendant 19 Libra 56 agrees for it is the symbol of “a tiny room cluttered with manuscripts sits a rabbi at ease with himself” suggesting an interest in permanent and lasting values but warns him of being too self-satisfied., the grand trine in air agrees. He only has Mars in Leo in Fire, and that on the eleventh house cusp, so he was concerned about image. which Mars sextile Saturn was one of patience, responsibility, and being successful in his chosen career; this mattered greatly to him because as the Mars sextile to the Sun shows it brought him freedom to live the way he wanted. Another oddity between the man and his politics but the Grand Trine explains it all — he was more theoretical than practical and ignored those little things.
The Righteous Rectangle shows also encourage this outwardly calm, figure. A “righteous” man who puts great energy into portraying the perfect progressive — concerned about all the right causes, but the sextiles between the differing active elements show his genuine concern was about his position and image in Hollywood.
Thus, according to the Huber duet, he had trouble letting go of age of prejudices and philosophies because he needed them to justify his later success and wealth. They feel that this dichotomy, noticed throughout his chart, made his personal life difficult as he needed to bend everything into fitting into the envelope of his politics because that was what he needed to remind himself despite his fame and fortune he was still a small-town boy from a farm in Minnesota.
Marshall was married three times. His first seems to have been longest from 1939 to 1954 lasting fourteen years.
