C250 James F. Byrnes, presidential king maker

The many facets of Justice Byrnes

James F. Byrnes was a lawyer with no formal education, something you would never see today,  and so is remarkable.  More striking is he had an influential role in the political careers of presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, and Richard Nixon.  Despite ending his scholastic career at fourteen when he left and went to work, FDR appointed him a Supreme Court Justic and if all of that was not notable, unlike most life-jurists,  he did not die in office, but resigned, and returned to political life,  and ran, successfully, as governor of his home state, South Carolina.

He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on May 2, 1882 to a newly widowed mother. As the clerkship for Judge Aldrich required him to be 21 years old, he falsified his year of birth as 1879. This, while striking today,  was not particularly remarkable at the time, as many people did that to meet work requirements.

He represented South Carolina in the House (1911-25) and Senate (1931-41).  When he was really twenty-one,  they admitted him to the bar as a self-taught lawyer.  From there, he ran for the Senate, where he helped spearhead much of his friends’ Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s (FDR) New Deal legislation.  Like another Roosevelt faithful,  Frank Murphy, Byrnes was sworn in as associate justice of the Supreme Court in July 1941 right before the start of World War II.

Our header picture is color coded for this a very august body : the British UK Prime Minister Clement .R. Attlee (White), President Harry S Truman(Blue) , and Soviet Union General Secretary (Premier) Josef Stalin (red ) all seated from left to right. In the rear, standing are US Admiral and President of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J.D. Loahy, UK Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin, US. Secretary of State, J.F.Byrnes (green) and Soviet Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars (Prime Minister)   Vyacheslav Molotov at Potsdam, Germany.

#J162 Julietta Judy Canova, the Hillbilly Comic

A direct descendant of Antonio Canova, the neo-romantic sculptor, who was famous for his Three Graces the English critic John Russell praised as being the epitome of beauty. That’s a a good joke for a gal who made a fortune looking ugly — I doubt great grandpapa would have approved. But her Sabian ascendant suggests she definitely learned a thing or two from him because it is ” a sculptor at work in his studio and under his skilled hands a lovely form takes shape, ” suggesting the ability of a woman to learn an eternal mark on the tablets of time; negatively reminding us that our pretentions could be too ambitious.

In Jones 1000, they have Jacksonville, but it’s really Starke, which seems to be a small town outside of Jax so the difference is minor. Born on November 20, 1916 she was the youngest of three children, all whom their mother pushed to go into show business. I’ve rectified her to 27 Scorpio, placing her ascendant right in the middle of her Sun and Mercury with plastic Sagittarius in her first house showing her ability to mimic all she heard — Jones did not have a time. Seems to have been a talented but difficult lady. Nevertheless she was married four times and that’s not counting the engagement to ventriloquist Edgar Bergen that Charlie broke up.

You can listen to this article here.

Uranus is her guide

Her unaspected uranus in the third house gives her a genius for her a highly unconventional, brand of comedy; her nickname was Judy of the Ozarks. She got herself two awards, the Moon in the twelfth house shows her career would be varied, and it was. Her first award was for her screwball, slapstick comedy, Saturn in Leo is exalted and gave a lending hand, and it would seem Lucille Ball learnt alot from Canova. Her other award was her years on radio, that Uranus highlights, on the Rudy Vallee Show. But that kooky planet also made her career go in leaps and bounds and by the 50’s it was over–just when Ball’s took off. Still thanks to Neptune, semi-sextile Pluto, she got a nearly a forty year run, Pluto quarters the Neptune 165 year cycle.

Jupiter in the fifth in Aries no less, gave her a breezy and optimistic flare; she was a natural entertainer. The opposition to Venus was her secret her both in its rulership in Libra and accidentally exalted in eleventh house! While she didn’t mind looking ugly, or playing the fool to get a laugh, she was really multitalented and good-looking.

Her Moon in Virgo accidentally in its detriment suggests while popular she was uncomfortable in Hollywood who probably looked askance at her success — the elitist view that Canova played to the crowd. Mercury is in its accidental detriment in the twelfth suggesting she had to conform to the Studios rules and was not particularly happy about that and next to her ascendant this was very chaffing to her, the Sun completing this triad. This is probably why she had to go with smaller studios instead of the big MGM and Paramount megahouses. Of course this fed back to her sextile Moon in Virgo where the MGM/Paramount stars snubbed her and why she felt out of sorts with them.

Top the Heap, so what went wrong?

Judy Canova a blast from the past that most have neve heard from was a real trailblazer in 30's Hollywood. Read this and find out why.
With a lot of planetary water planets in water signs, Judy’s earthly comedy was cathartic for her fans. She allowed them to laugh at themselves, secretively in a movie house. Thus in the thirties this was raucous good humour, as everything in water had progressed to mutable fire. By the fifties though, ; the progressions were now in elitist cardinal earth, are people were disowning low brow comedy and wanted something more ennobling like drama, at least at the box-office, or it could be as simple as she was getting old and the young Judy ingenue role stale. Probably it was bit of a both.

If you enjoyed this post, or the move, please give it a like. It costs nothing and does wonders for morale. Thanks ;_)

Rene Guenon, nature of the real

Rene Guenon was a Frenchman who went East and discovered Islam. The timing was perfect: his beloved French wife (Venus in the twelfth in the house of loss) died just as Pluto was being discovered, (In his sixth house next to Neptune ). Guenon decided his faith in Catholic Christianity was misplaced and he moved to Cairo following the Sufi path of love and the 12th century mystic Rumi. Once there he became the Sufi mystic, Abdel Wahed Yahya.

Our header picture is from Anvari’s Divan via the preservation efforts of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York by Annemarie Schimmel and Stuary Cary Welch and is titled “The beloved comes at night”. 1 Anvari’s Divan: A Pocketbook for Akbar. The Divan literally a pocketbook of Moslem aphorisms, was created in 1588 for Auhaududdin Anvari, the Mughal Emperor in Lahore India c. 1588 . This painting is attributed to Shiva Das.

Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest places if you look at it right…

Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead, Scarlet Begonias

As William Chittick, the major scholar of Sufism in the West, writes in the second edition of Titus Burckhardt’s Introduction to Sufism 2 originally published in 1959 and considered the authority , “academic knowledge is only secondary and indirect to assimilating the intellectual content of oriental doctrines as the scientific method which approaches all from the outside and looks in, and thus does understand the idea of assimilation that can only be understood by going beyond the limitations of discursive thought.” 3 ibid. Preface, page xviii . But as all religious came East to the West, that is not an unusual thought , but lost in the West’s pre-occuptation was “plainness” and destruction of mysticism after the Reformation where adherents of Luther, though not Luther himself, thew out the symbolic baby with the bathwater in a too critical reaction of all things Catholic.

Guenon wrote over 24 volumes in his native French, on Du Soufisme, though few have been translated into the English most likely because French translators would prefer to keep his wisdom to themselves. 4 This is not my thinking but my French Canadian’s comment, when he While Guenon first toyed with the Vedanta through the works of Swami Vivekananda, the Indian mystic Annie Besant, Charles Leadbetter (correspondent to Marc Edmund Jones), and Alice Bailey followed, he did not pursue it,

Sometimes we are hidden, other times revealed.

Rumi from the Divan
The crux of his arguments are against the modern faith of positivity of progress; Guenon did not agree but felt that human kind reached a zenith and then fell backwards from that apex, which is based on the Hindu Yugas or yokes where each cycle gets shorter and shorter once it hits its zenith. Mircea Eliade was greatly, and this site attempts to explain it from Guenon’s “Traditional Forms and Cosmic Cycles.” The Athenian Plato also took this up this idea, based on Hesiod’s Theogony. Roman Catholic Robert Bolton in his The Order of the Ages: The Hidden Laws of World History also by Sophia Perennis Press, and he uses Sir Isaac Newton’s cycles to support this.

Where we are now

According to Guenon we are currently in the age of the “rejection of the sacred,” where not just one country or culture rejects the idea of God and sacredness but it permeates all of humankind. This unfortunately is obvious during the Great Lockdown that has permeated every aspect of our life, controlling it to an unprecedented degree 4 See the post on the Robert Court allowing Churches to be closed subsequently overturned after Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in that is of any not. .

Pluto led him to Islam because of its strong ties to revelation — a philosophical idea that Guenon obsessively devoted his life.

Which House system? Looking at the Meridian

You can listen to this text too.

After one conquers learning the wheel, an astrologer must decide on what house system to use, and there are many.  This is a series of posts on the many house systems there are and why they exist.  In each one we highlight one of the Celestiology notables, put up a chart of the highlighted house system, and then one of our default Morinus system and finally the Koch system because it is one of the most popular used formats in the world.  In the United States, it runs second after the Placidian.

       Why the Meridian System?

The Australian Astrologer, David Cope, who worked under the magical name of Zariel, created the Meridian House System in the early 1900s. His intention was to fix the problems he found in the Morinus System, by replacing the equatorial calculations with the meridians, as that is more stable. He kept the idea of Jean Baptiste Morin of separating the ascendant from the first house, though.

Janus software has the Meridian System, both its European name (Meridian) and its Australia (Zariel), probably because they are in New Zealand.

Alfred Witte and the Hamburg school used this one before abandoning the house system entirely. Astrometrologist Carl Payne Tobey & Sydney Omarr were also fans of the Meridian, though I have never seen a published post with it; all that are in the Equal House format, but they mention it favorably.

Greta Garbo & the Meridian House System

For this example, we are using is Swedish-American 1930s screen star, Greta Garbo. Because neither system pegs the Ascendant to the first house, that is moves under the two methods does not matter. See the red arrow at the first house. The second arrow shows that while the Midheaven did not change, the house cusp of the tenth house did; a minor detail.

What does change is the position of the Moon. In the Morinus system, the Moon is in the seventh house of other people and opportunities presented by them, while in the Meridian, only Jupiter is in the seventh and the Moon is now in the sixth house of work and service.

The third chart is the reference chart using the Walter Koch System, originally titled the Birthday System. The Ascendant in that system is  tied to the traditional first house and here Garbo’s third house has an intercepted Capricorn with Uranus; neither the Morinus nor the Meridian has any interceptions and Uranus is in the second.

Notes:

You have to be wondering why I am doing this a third time. I know I am. The reason is when I changed the name of the site from Sabian Earth to Celestiology I lost a lot of posts; I believe about 70, and I have yet to figure out how to restore one domain name to another. I guess upon reflection, that is BoldGrid problem since I use their Total Backup.

Swing hitter Gian Carlo Stanton

Gian Carlo Cruz Michael Stanton was born in Los Angeles on November 9. 1989, the eldest of three children. He attended Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga, California, for two years and then transferred to Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, where he was a three-sport athlete playing baseball, wide receiver and cornerback for the gridiron football team, and basketball. With Saturn in Capricorn, he made the shrewd decision to go into baseball: it pays the best.

The Yankee connection

Gian Carlo, formerly called Mike Stanton, played for the Miami Marlins, owned by Bruce Sherman and former New York Yankee, Derek Jeter, but has been traded to the New York Yankees; he was not happy about that. Jeter is a 4% owner of the Marlins, and the operating manager. We wonder whether Stanton being much like Deter’s former teammate, Alex Rodriguez, played a part of the decision.

Part of the agreement the Yankees made with Miami when they traded for Stanton in December 2017, was that the Marlins will pay the Yankees $30 million of his remaining contract since Giancarlo Stanton will not opt out of the final seven years of his contract to become a free agent. That makes sense as he won’t get that amount of money elsewhere.

Stanton, who turns 31 in November, foreshadowed the news on Instagram in early October 2020, when he selfie’d himself hitting at Yankee Stadium with “We’ll be back.” Under his contract he will make $29 million in the next two seasons before a bump to $32 million per year from 2023 to 2025, an enormous amount of money for a hitter who will be DH’d for most of the season.

C182 Skillful Michelle Obama

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama was a very well loved first lady, typical of Splay Temperament types, so much so that many of her fans who heard her speak at the 2016 Democratic Convention want her to run in 2020.  She has said she will not, but politics is fickle and as Yogi Berra would say “the fat lady sings”. 1 It ain’t over till it’s over”, a popular quip of baseball player Yogi Berra’s. This is similar in spirit to “don’t count your chickens before they hatch

The political Michelle Obama

Young Michelle did not look to Washington for her heroes—she found them right at home. Her only sibling, a brother named Craig, was twenty-one-months her senior, provided an excellent example both inside and outside the classroom. Both their hardworking parents, Fraser Robinson III, a city water plant worker, and Marian Shields Robinson, a homemaker, pushed both children to excel.

Rejecting the easy option—to send their son and daughter to a convenient public high school—the Robinsons encouraged their athletic son to enroll in a parochial school with an outstanding basketball program and for Michelle, they decided the newly opened Whitney M. Young Magnet School offered a quality education that more than compensated for the daily three-hour commute.

As a racially mixed school, Michelle associated with classmates who came from all over the city, and she did well both academically and socially. She made the National Honor Society in her junior year and was elected treasurer of her senior class.

After graduation in 1981, Michelle followed her brother to Princeton, and like him, majored in sociology. Although one of the oldest colleges in America, Princeton had only accepted women as undergraduates in 1969, and African Americans were only admitted after World War II and still comprised only about 10 percent of the student body.

Even the “little sister” of a basketball star felt like an outsider, and Michelle saw herself as a “visitor on campus, as if I really  don’t belong.”¹

Betty Boyd Caroli
obamas_summitt2
At six feet one inch, those legs never end.

She found little on her background other than through her mother she is a direct descendant of a male slave owned by a plantation in Alabama.  Nothing on her father’s side, so we imagine that they were free folks.

She went to Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, for her Bachelor of Arts and then onto Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts for her Juris Doctor degree.  She met her husband as his Senior Legal Advisor at Harvard University.

Later on, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright married them on October 3, 1992 in his Trinity United Church of Christ church, a social justice church, in Chicago; he parents raised her Methodist. The Obama’s joining TUCC makes sense, for it promotes universal health care, feeding the hungry, but also working to insure people are paid a living wage so they can care for themselves and their families; all hallmarks of her husband’s presidency.

After her husband’s election, Michelle Obama made more headlines because she was a Harvard-educated lawyer and former hospital executive, accustomed to bringing home a paycheck that exceeded her husband’s Senate salary, about $170, 000 per year, but now is a stay-at-home “mom in chief.” Unlike the only other attorney to become First Lady Hillary Clinton, Obama felt no need to feign culinary interests by talking about cookie baking, and instead used her first public event at the White House to celebrate a recent law extending workers’ rights.  This willingness to highlight one’s professional expertise made the 2008 election an important turning point for women and African-Americans as a whole.  ²

Ann Sheridan has “Oomph”

Ann Sheridan was a popular actress in the 1930s and 40s playing opposite such notables as Jimmy Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn.   By the 1950s her health sidelined her and after that she was forgotten.  She was born in Denton, Texas on February 21, 1915 at 1 am (two times are given for her on Astro.com 7 am and 1 am, I found that the 1 am time worked best so have chosen that for this article) the last of five children in what she called “a normal family”.

She was the great granddaughter of Philip Sheridan, the U.S. Cavalry General for Lincoln in the Civil War and who had been assigned for Reconstruction to Louisiana and Texas to bring them back into the “fold”. “

Ann” was her stage name taken from a character she played, but she was originally baptized “Clara Lou Sheridan.” Her ascendant at 26 Scorpio 54 gives her the symbol of ” Indians making camp” representing woman’s inexhaustible capacity for self-establishment and finding everything for success at hand — true she was quite talented. The keyword is Extemporaneous.

She has a preponderance in the third house for her many dramatic and singing roles but it is her high focus Venus in the second that marks her as a beauty, trine in the Moon in the sixth house, she easily became America’s dream girl with fans on both sides of the aisle and during the War became alongside Betty Grable, a favorite GI pinup girl and was cosmetic giant Max Factor’s “Girl of the Year” in 1939. Her film career was marked by playing against such notable male leads as Jimmy Cagney, Humphrey Bogart Ronald Reagan, & Errol Flynn.

But that Moon is also her nemesis and creates her dynamic square with Mars in the highly populated third, showing the flip side of the silvery goddess — bad health from the stresses and strains of work. It is possible this means alcohol to cope, (there is no record of this though), particularly as the Moon is sextile Neptune in the eighth.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DavgzfxQBZc

Her high focus Venus gave Sheridan the ability to have an approachable persona with the audience. Unlike MarleneDietrich who was always hands off, Sheridan was personable and came across as the girl next door, even when the next door was on the shady side of town (the Dead End Kids series). Venus, the planet of acquisitions, paid off when her long-time partner, Steve Hannagan, died in 1953 and bequeathed her a cool 2.1 million dollars.

  • Her Line of Motivation is square.
  • Her Line of Culture is inconjunct.
  • Her Line of Efficiency is absent.
  • Her Line of Vitality is absent.

Ann died January 21, 1967 at 51, from liver cancer at home in San Fernando Valley, California. Her third husband, Scott McKay, this was also his third marriage, was by her side; they had been married six months. The funeral was private and held the following day according to the New York Times obit.
