C164 Sleeping with the enemy: Eric Swalwell

Why the Scandal Matters

California Representative Eric Swalwell, who is on the Foreign Intelligence Committee, is in the news for sleeping with a known Chinese spy, Christine Fong, her Chinese name is different depending upon the new source, but the anti-CCP run Epoch Times says Christine’s name is Fang Fang, and she has received lots of secret intelligence briefs from him.

This comes from Axios News Media, created in 2016 by former Politico journalists,  who broke the story saying Swalwell is claiming this a Trump ploy. This makes no sense because Swalwell was just re-elected, and if it involved the President, would not have Trump have released this before the election?

Logic does not seem to be Swalwell strength though, because another one of his arguments is he is so poorly under-funded he cannot do background checks on his staff. In the meantime, the Guardian says that Swalwell’s brother and father, the ex-police Chief of Sac City, have defriended Fong after five years of Facebook friendship (this predates his marriage in 2016).

Another California representative, Rho Khanna, has defriended Fong too. There is no mention of Congresswoman Judy Chu’s friend status with Fong.

Christine Fang, also known as Fang Fang, pictured with Congressman Eric Swalwell, left, and then with California Congressman Judy Chu, right.

Swalwell has yet to deny the allegations of cheating on his wife with an aide (shades of Monica Lewinsky) just that he claims he never gave her any information; Nancy Pelosi is “shocked” by the Axios report. Whatever Fong’s official capacity in the Representative’s  Office, we know she is an employee of Red China, somewhat like Mata Hari in World War I, using sex  to get information to help her side, so no matter how happy Swalwell was in the relationship, and he must have been since it has lasted a while;  she is not in it for the sex.

If on the other hand, as he contends, he was not supplying her with intelligence, but just sweet favours, she would have moved onto another pigeon.  That is how espionage works.

Eric’s Charts & Natal lines

Eric Swalwell’s natal chart that was rectified to 17 Cancer 35, the symbol of a “hen clucking for her chickens in a bustling barnyard.”  Jones writes that this degree is about using things for one’s own agenda.

Swalwell is a bucket with a Moon handle in the ninth house of legislature. His father was the police chief of Sac City, Iowa, and with the fourth house filled to the brim with a large stellium in Libra one sees that justice plays a large part in Eric’s life.  In the neighboring fifth house of sex, and creative regeneration, Eric’s problem with women comes into play:  a rather fast Moon and very forward Mercury suggesting Eric relies on his good looks and charm to get him out of any difficulty instead of actually facing the issues head on.

The angle of the Moon

Swalwell’s Moon is problematic, hinting Swalwell is his own worst enemy, right there on the ninth house cusp in Aquarius.  This has more to do more with the Moon at 29 Aquarius 29, hovering near the eighth house  of other people’s money, sex and death.  It is also opposite President Trump’s ascendant on the third house cusp, showing how desire to curry favour with the Press, and do what was popular with them in attacking Trump and hopefully taking him down, he would in turn becomes the  front runner for  2024 Presidential race, but neither he nor his buddy Schiff delivered that fatal blow.

For with so much air in his chart, Swalwell over thought the situation, and became arrogant.  That large stellium blinded him, as he relied too much on other people, not seeing how those relationships, while help get him into the limelight now, could  swiftly turn and shut him out, when someone better came along.  The backward thrust of the handle encouraged that shortsighted reliance to think only in terms of “now” and not realize what lay ahead. A good scenario of this aspect is Swalwell gets in bed with the Chinese to make a name for himself, never seeing that such a relationship could boomerang.

That made me look to see if there were any major US political figures with so many air conjuncts.  I did find another,  with lots of conjunctions, also in Libra, but this time in the first house; that chart belongs to former President Bill Clinton.  Former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, also has a lot of conjunctions  but in the fifth and  Aquarius.  No one else from McKinley on came close to those two.

His Moon square the Sun on the cusp of the sixth house is also problematic, hinting that while he make not lose his seat,  he is a Democrat, he could lose his high profile position  on the Intelligence Committee (see the Transiting Mars to Jupiter in Capricorn in the seventh) where he was able to bully Trump with threats of a Russian collusion and fade into oblivion.

                 High Tech and the FBI

The representative’s  Sun’s proximity to Uranus in the sixth tells us that while he claims he has no money for surveillance, Swalwell is technologically savvy enough to take advantage of whatever low-cost information is out there like TruthFinder.com.  But frankly he does not even that, as the FBI provides those checks for members of Congress for free, under the Freedom of Information Act, if requested.

Beware of Foreign Ambassadors

On another note, Swalwell’s transiting Venus conjunct natal Sun in the fifth suggests  sexual exploits with foreign ambassadors will come to light now

The sextile between his Mars and Venus (the Line of Efficiency) gives him  a sexually passionate nature, his tactile way of  faking an earth relationship,  most likely would lead to extra martial affairs.  This is  because Mars is on the seventh house cusp there but with Neptune nearby, dupes him, making him think he can fake his way of any problem, and keep his home life intact.

But despite Pelosi’s great protestations, this call is up to Brittany Watt Swalwell, and it is hard without her info, to know how she will proceed, though the marriage chart does provide some hints.

Eric and Brittany’s wedding day chart.

Brittany Watt, formerly of Miami, Florida, met Eric while she was the Director of Sales at the Ritz Carlton in swanky Half-Moon Bay; no dates.  The two  were married in the Oakland’s County Clerk’s office on October 14 2016 and here I made a guess that because it was at the Country Clerk’s office it was early in the day—basically they were prosaic and the marriage was a formality.  This created the chart above, the marriage as a transit to Eric’s natal chart and mirable dictu, we got the marriage’s  Part of Fortune 26 Aries 28  the same as his natal Midheaven.

The Sabian  symbol for this degree is  a panorama of events blended together trying to recapture a lost opportunity, and it gets the warning to beware self-pity.  I think that is  àpropos,  as the chart suggests she was pregnant with their son. The Mars in the seventh though suggests divorce, and conjunct Pluto from infidelity.

Eric and Brittany Watts Swalwell with their two children.

It’s too early to say whether Mrs. Swalwell will agree, but since Pelosi already lost many representatives in California, she will undoubtedly put a lot of pressure on Mrs. Swalwell (transiting Sun conjunct transiting Mercury conjunct natal Neptune in the sixth) to do the right thing for the Party; Nancy cannot afford to let her majority shrink any further.

His Line of Motivation, Jupiter to Saturn, is conjunct, as is the current mundane configuration as it goes into the 2020 Great Conjunction next; on his current transit chart, this spans his seventh and eighth houses. As a replay of his birth aspects, it suggests the reason for the scandal coming out now is the CCP no longer needs him having run the well dry.

Finally, his Line of Culture, Neptune to Uranus, is a semi-sextile away, highlighting his self-willed nature that is alas also rather self-indulgent. That may explain his hubris in believing he will get away with scandal, but he is naïve if he thinks Fong was just there for his prowess.

Speaker Pelosi has renewed his position as head of Intelligence because in the current state of American politics, a Democrat can do wrong and as winds point these days, only in the East, surprising or not, does it matter if one is sexually lascivious.

J895 Electrifying Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla, date unknown.

Tesla was a Serbian American inventor and engineer .

He is credited with discovering and patenting the rotating magnetic field, the basis of most alternating-current machinery

Marc Jones has July 10, 1856 in Smiljian Austria-Hungary Empire, now Croatia, but Tesla was not Croatian as widely believed but was an ethnic Serbian and his father was an Eastern Orthodox priest.

Though he was famous and respected, he was never able to translate his inventions into long-term financial success—unlike his early employer and chief rival, Thomas Edison. Tesla died unfortunately penniless at the New Yorker hotel in Manhattan letting others make billions off his name and talent.

FDR Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy

The dates on Supreme Court Justice Murphy are incorrect. William Francis Murphy was born on April 13th , 1890 not April 13, 1893 in Harbor Beach, Michigan to two Irish immigrants and devout Catholics. He got his law degree at the University of Michigan (LL.B., 1914) and, after serving in the first World War and held several elective posts in the 1920s.

His efforts to help the unemployed got President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s attention, who after Murphy finished his term as Mayor of Detroit (1930-1933) appointed him to the governor-general (1933–35) and then U.S. high commissioner (1935–36) in the Philippines, where he supported the independence movement.

Strong Liberal Credentials

Upon returning home, Murphy rose to governor of Michigan where again he got national attention for refusing to break the illegal sit-down strikes at Ford and GM auto companies. FDR applauded those actions, and he appointed him the United States Attorney General.

Once there, Murphy won further accolades for instituting the Civil Rights Unit (now a Division of the AG’s office). Finally in 1940 Murphy got an appointment on to the Federal Bench; but that did not last long as he died in 1949. He voted with Justices Owen Roberts and Robert Jackson against the majority opinion of Justices Black and Felix Frankfurter on interring Japanese residents into camps in California in the the Korematsu v. US case.

I dissent, therefore, from this legalization of racism. Racial discrimination in any form and in any degree has no justifiable part whatever in our democratic way of life. It is unattractive in any setting, but it is utterly revolting among a free people who have embraced the principles set forth in the Constitution of the United States. All residents of this nation are kin in some way by blood or culture to a foreign land. Yet they are primarily and necessarily a part of the new and distinct civilization of the United States. They must, accordingly, be treated at all times as the heirs of the American experiment, and as entitled to all the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.”

Justice Frank Murphy, Korematsu vs. U.S.1

Murphy was among 12 nominated at the 1944 Democratic National Convention to serve as Roosevelt’s running mate in the presidential election that year. He acted as chairman of the National Committee against Nazi Persecution and Extermination of the Jews and of the Philippine War Relief Committee and established in early 1944 committee to promote rescue of European Jews, and to combat antisemitism in the United States.

Murphy died in his sleep at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit on July 19, 1949, of a coronary thrombosis. He was of 59 and was slated to get married the following month. Over 10,000 people attended his funeral in Detroit and is s buried in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Cemetery in Sand Beach Township, Michigan, near Harbor Beach.

The third judicial court of Michigan is named in his honour.

Rebel without a Cause, James Dean

Actor James Byron Dean was born on February 8, 1931, at the Seven Gables apartment on the corner of 4th Street and McClure Street in Marion, Indiana, southwest of Fort Wayne. Like the larger city, they named Marion for a Revolutionary War general, this time Brigadier General Francis Marion.

Listen to the essay.

His parents Mildred Marie (Wilson) and Winton Dean, a dental technician, were natives of the area. Their only child was Jimmy, and when the boy was about six years old, they moved to Los Angeles for presumably better business opportunities. Unfortunately, Mrs. Dean died a few years later, shortly before her thirtieth birthday, when Dean was about nine years old, of uterine cancer.

DeWeerd Stories

In Paul Alexander’s 1994 book Boulevard of Broken Dreams: The Life, Times, and Legend of James Dean claims in his adolescence, Dean sought the counsel and friendship of a local Methodist pastor, the Rev. James DeWeerd, one of the two ministers that officiated at Jimmy’s funeral. But Alexander goes beyond that relationship, stating that Jimmy used his sexuality to advance his film opportunities with many older, and well-known gay men, like Clifton Webb.

Perhaps the minister, or just a proxy for his male relationships as a while, is the Saturn figure at 18 Capricorn 07 with the Sabian symbol of “a little boy goes shopping”, in the second house? It is hard to know but his progressed death chart suggests he was unhappy about some relationship that was literally choking his growth but was it DeWeerd?

Dean himself refuted these comments, and his best friend knew of several Dean heterosexual relationships, so the Alexander story could just be a good copy; anything on James Dean sells to the gay community who considers Dean the #1 Gay Icon.

A natural style

Dean gets the athletic ascendant of 04 Sagittarius 32 of the symbol of an “OLD OWL UP IN A TREE ” suggesting the natural wisdom one gains their knowledge from life, not books, recommending Dean remain focused on his naturalness, that is the key reason for Dean’s success — he convincingly conveyed his character’s defiance in the few movies he made.

Many Symbol readers use the opposite degree, as how they use their ascendant with others. For Jimmy Dean, no relation to the sausage company, we get “A radical magazine” and that is perfect because that is how the Hollywood marketing machine packaged him. Dean was also something “extraordinary and unorthodox” i.e. a Rebel without a Cause and Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.”

It is possible this “rebel” image hung around his neck and hamstrung his desires to move beyond those roles; his fellow actor in Rebel, Sal Mineo, commented, “No one ever said movies are for developing your range. Hardly anyone gets that opportunity, “ and perhaps Dean’s auto-racing was his way of busting out of the typecast and living life more on his own terms.

Oh, those dreamy eyes

C195 New to NBC: Megyn Marie Kelly

Megyn Kelly,  previously the Kelly File, on the cable network FoxNews, had a major run in with Presidential candidate Donald Trump.  When asked if this was “political” attack, she said No,  but I did not agree, so I did her chart. I am not sure why I bothered, for while she claims her political slant is “independent“, like most talking heads, it would be better to phrase it as “opportunistic.”

Ms. Kelly has been married twice. The first time to a Daniel Kendall, M.D.  The divorce was acrimonious and ended in 2006 with him claiming Megyn did not want a husband but a “role reversal.” Her second marriage to Cybersecurity analyst turned writer, Douglas Brunt, has been far more successful with three children, 2 boys, and a girl. Megyn is a graduate of the Albany Law School and is half Italian and Irish.

                           Where were you born?

Astro.com says that Megyn was born in Syracuse.  Wikipedia OTOH says Champaign Illinois.    We did the charts for both and found the Illinois birthplace implausible, so we are going with the Syracuse one.  It makes more sense all around as all her schooling is in New York State, and her father, Edward Kelly taught at SUNY.

Kelly.pngThe Chart

Download Megyn-Marie-kelly‘s chart here.

Ms. Kelly is a bucket temperament type with a Saturn handle in her fifth house of creativity & speculation. Saturn is the protector of the zodiac at nineteen Taurus, & as her handle creates the symbol of a “Newly formed continent, ” suggesting the raw substance of existence and that her experience shapes and develops her character more than her education.   He allows her to see opportunities that others miss and gives her the revolutionary potential to recreate her image and her environs.

Mrs & Mrs Douglas Brunt

But this handle is under stress from the very benevolent Jupiter that also constituents the Line of Personality that makes her gravitate towards hubbub of turmoil and upset, and explains why she attacked candidate Donald Trump to such a great deal — she loves the attention.

Jupiter at 18.34 Scorpio is rather accurate for an interviewer, “A parrot listening and then talking.”  Dr. Jones writes this gives her the inherent sensitivity to reworking reality in the service of her own “personal aspirations,” and with not T-Cross to allow for a fuller expression, it forces to recreate herself and her career almost chameleon-like.

Her Midheaven at  20.15 Libra is conjunct, within two degrees, to fiercely ambitious Mars at 18.31 Libra.  Here found in her ninth house of travels, writing and long distance communications, it suggests that she has had many disruptive moves as she directs her consciousness towards her new visions.  Mars has the symbol is a “gang of robbers in hiding” emphasizing her need to express her personal freedom, a vital ingredient in her various transformations and supports her first husband’s comments about her wanting a  role reversal marriage.  Luckily, her second husband, Douglas Brunt, found a second career as a writer that would tolerate that.

                                    Network? Networking?

With a stellium of planets in her ninth house, Ms. Kelly has a Rolodex to die for.  She is networked, connected to everyone.  She swaps business cards immediately upon meeting someone, and then dutifully keeps in touch so that the connection does not go stale.

Her Sun at twenty-six Scorpio is square as her Part of Fortune, the symbol of Indians making Camp, encourages that, as she makes the least promising situations turn around to her benefit.  There is no doubt, Ms. Kelly is a hard worker.

That Part of Fortune is found in her intercepted eighth house, so she also spends a lot of time making it look good and effortless.  The changes in makeup, hairstyle, clothing, and networks are all part of her desire to run up a significant image and bank account, eventually allowing her to write her own ticket.  Ms. Kelly’s Midheaven at twenty-one Libra is probably a run in the political arena as it has the symbol of a “Crowd gathering on a beach” to hear important revelations.  Watch her pick up the Hillary Clinton mantle in the next ten years.

                                                             What’s your Line?

Ms. Kelly’s Line of Vitality 1 is squared.  This aspect is determined by the aspect between the Sun and Moon.  Dr. Jones says that this native uses her physical energy to focus her will and the houses where the planets reside are those where she put the most effort into.

For her, this is the eighth house of legacies and the eleventh house of networking and friends.  She feels strongly about impressing her personality upon the sphere in which she operates & needs to be a high-profile person on television, as well as traditional & social media.  As she is exerting her physical will here, she will work tirelessly for that to happen.

Her Line of Personality, the aspect between Jupiter and Saturn, has an opposition.  Her Saturn is also her High Focus planet,  and this point agrees with the Line of Vitality about her conscious decision for her personal place in the scheme of things.

Her Line of Culture, sextile Uranus, and Neptune is the third of the four lines that Dr. Jones created.  This aspect as these are outer planets happen generationally and tend to define age groups, so the houses are more important than the character itself.  For Kelly, Neptune at 1 degree Sagittarius, tells she appreciates her family, both past, and present, in supporting her.  Her eldest son named after her late father, Edward Kelly, as well as her on-air mentioning of her children and spouse are examples.

Ms. Kelly has the final Line of Efficiency as well. This is not common, and we have noted in our studies that those who tend to be a bit more self-centered than the general populace.  For her, that Line, determined by  Mars and Venus, is sextiled.  We find the two planets in the ninth and eleventh houses suggesting that moving and being nimble-footed is part of the desire for success.  She may be at NBC New York now, but like many other of her moves, she will be elsewhere in the future when opportunity strikes.

Pip Torrens aka Uncle Warleggan in Poldark

I honestly thought the three Warleggan family members the best thing on Poldark. Their acting was quite good and I enjoyed the performances of the actors for George, Elizabeth and Uncle Cary, immensely.

I could find little on Philip (Pip) Torrens even browsing through the British papers, though YouTube yielded a few interviews. He has a long and varied career — starting with Oxford Blues (a comedy c. 1986) to Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens ( 2015) and now the Poldark Series (2016-2019).

Bloxham to Cambridge

Torrens went to public Bloxham School, and then onto Trinity College where he read Literature. That worked out well, as he realized rather than either reading or writing it, he wanted to re-enact it, and attended London Drama School to learn the trade. He and his Poldark nephew George (Jack Farthing’s CV is quite similar) were the only two major figures in the show that shared a classical training, and it is what made them such compelling anti-heroes.

Traditionally that has been the difference between British and American talent — over there they get the academic foundation and rigour of Shakespearean training (another nativity highlighted was Patrick Stewart, who had been a Shakespearean stage actor before the Hollywood break), while in the US it is on-the-job training or coach mentoring — like the famous Lee Strasberg Method School in New York City, or directorial supervision as in the famous cases of John Wayne, Jack Nicholson, Errol Flynn, and Leonardo di Caprio.

The Hollywood difference

This is why Hollywood actors, except for the very finest, have no career after 40 — once their looks go they have little to commend them, so they turn to directing or producing films for income and celebrity.

Obviously, Pip Torrens has used his education and hard work (sixth house Moon-Pluto conjunction) to make a meal ticket that will last longer, and with Saturn in the tenth house and the sixth house trine, it was solid, older characters that he made his fortune — not dashing young leading stars. The Capricorn stellium there cements the deal.

A good memory helps

Torrens was born in Bromley, a farming town in southeastern London — and actually the only agricultural town in the borough on June 2, 1960, at what I pegged around 2:30 in the morning. This gives him an ascendant of 03 Aries 46, a symbol of “Boldness” with a midheaven of 01 Capricorn 43, or “Seriousness” — both à propos considering his film roles.

The midheaven symbol also suggests ambition, which I think is born out in his change of career. His part of fortune is in the tenth too, at a degree particularly helpful for actors having to memorize their roles: 10 Capricorn 46 (keyword Memory)

The incredible Mr Limpett, Don Knotts

Jesse Donald Knotts has all the elements of a Splay Temperament Type — a Grand Trine in Fire, no oppositions and a charming personality. Asteroid Hebe partile Pluto shows how he imbued his characters, Barney Fife in the Andy Griffith Show with his fake bravado and child like wonderment that was as hilarious as it was embarrassing.

Asteroid Photographia (HS pioneers going west for a new frontier) conjunct his ascendant is surprising; Knotts was not a handsome man and the black moon Lilith nearby suggests this bothered him, but his plastic features took on a form and function of their own (Saturn at 27 Libra keyword Enchantment) that made him one of the most popular comedians of all time.

Haven’t a clue what time he died, this is just for study.

His ascendant 14 Gemini gets the Hyperion Climbers above the timber line, where his physical comedy (Terpsichore in Virgo) is enjoyable if not surprising like this scene from The Incredible Mr. Limpet (asteroid Poseidon conjunct his Moon in Aries in the eleventh) where his dreams and exasperation take a very unexpected turn.

Don had two children with his first wife, his college sweetheart. Daughter Karen continues the comedic line while sonTom became an electrical engineer. Born in Cancer, Don died from lung cancer in the sign of the fishes, appropriately enough, on February 24, 2006 in Los Angeles. Thankfully we have reruns.

C108 Azzedine Alaia “King of Cling” fashion

Tunisian Azzedine Alaia,  died on Saturday, November 18, 2017  in his adopted home of Paris where he was one of the couture fashion doyens.  His company said the cause was a heart attack.  He was eight-two years old.  Alaia was called a sculptor of the female form, notably worn by  the First Lady Michelle Obama   who once wore an Alaia sweated to Buckingham Palace (much to Oscar de la Renta’s horror) to Madonna and  Lady Gaga and then in the 1995 comedy Clueless Cher, opposes a robber’s demand to hit the pavement, saying her red dress “is an Alaia. It’s like a totally important designer. You just don’t do that to him.”

He “changed my conception of fashion,” said Nicolas Ghesquière, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton, in a documentary on Mr. Alaïa made by the stylist Joe McKenna and released this year.   Diminutive in stature, he just made five feet. His models called him “Papa,”, and like our header picture he always word a black Mao style tunic with pajamas because he “renounced bourgeoisie style”.
