C104 Always capable, Tom Selleck

From Magnum P.I. on, Tom Selleck has been a television heart throb. He made few movies because his studio would not release him, fearing that further publicity would make his demand more in next contract, thus Harrison Ford got the title role, and highly lucrative, Indian Jones part. Pity isn’t it?

Selleck has a grand trine in air, perhaps that is why he plays such compelling detective roles — almost becoming a modern day Sherlock. His Neptune part this trio is in the twelfth house conjunct Jupiter, showing the limited range the studios have allowed him, but how nonetheless he has been able to create a successful, and very popular, career for himself within it.

While his good looks cannot be denied, his voice, getting a part of fortune in Taurus is key to his successful — a smooth luxuriant baritone tht exudes confidence. His ascendant at 26 Libra 58 is close enough to his Scorpio first house to show how his sexual appeal is part of his charm. It gets the symbol “the symbol of an eagle flying as a brilliant spot in the sky while an airplane flies in the same air space.” Jones writes about Wheeler’s symbol that it is about the privilege some people have as the dwell above the normal stresses of life and portray to all viewing, the calm deliberation and cool observation that encourages them. Yes, he does that well.

Selleck is a Splash Temperament Type filling up nearly 5/8th of the wheel with either planets or astrological points. If you have never seen a Magnum episode, I cannot help you as they all locked up on YouTube and viewing is fee-based. Instead what follows is my favorite…it’s classic Selleck btw.

C124 Banjo playing Appalachian Henry Reed

James Henry Neel Reed a master fiddler, banjoist, and harmonica player, he is the brother on the right of the header picture, had an amazing repertoire consisting of hundreds of tunes, as well as multiple performance styles all memorized by heart. He was professionally known as Henry Reed, and was born on April 28, 1884, in the Appalachian Mountains of Monroe County, West Virginia. As I do not have an exact location, I picked Zenith West Virginia as it is in the mountains and it has a propitious name: Henry Reed was the zenith of banjo playing.

C180 NYU’s Michael Rectenwald’s Snowflake Moment

Prof. Rectenwald, formerly of New York University, where he had the Twitter nickname “The Deplorable Prof”  has hit the circuit in the past year discussing his  book, Springtime of Snowflakes, Social Justice and its Postmodern Parentage  a mad cap view of what’s going down in Academia these days.  His premise is universities have become  hot bend of far left politics via  Georg Lukacs Marxist Critical Theory  that is now the main engine for Black Lives Matters and other “woke” philosophies.

Better is his next book Beyond Woke and its incubate relationship with the CIA and what and who really has the power in these relationships. Like Google Archipelago: The Digital Gulag and the Simulation of Freedom,  he argues, quite successfully,  that the “Big Digital” technologies and their principals like Google represent a new form of corporate state power and leftist authoritarianism.  If you think this is all sour grapes, you have not been paying attention.  Perhaps it is time for you to wake up while you still can.

The Deplorable Chart

His chart, below,  is interesting in that it has an unaspected Saturn, which fits how a man who was in academia for twenty years before he caught on to what was coming down.  It was only, as he relates himself, when he questioned an applicants poor writing samples for a writing position at NYU, that he realized how pervasive critical theory and political correctness had become.

Once he did, he “woke up” but not as the left expected, instead he was outraged and horrified like a Sleeping Beauty who found it was not some handsome Prince Charming who was kissing her on the cheek but some jeering half-insane joker complete with the Beetlejuice grin. For Rectenfeld, that was somewhere around 57, a big shy of a second Saturn return, but nonetheless within the Grim Reaper’s grasp.

Now he   has become the Prophet Jeremiah, decrying the evils of wokeness, to all that will listen. Bob Murphy for his eponymous show has a good interview with Rectenfeld on Beyond Woke here.

The Deplorable Chart

He has a grand trine in Earth and is a locomotive temperament type. I’ve pegged him at 05 Leo 42 for an ascendant or what E.C. Matthews calls “Fame” a degree which symbolizes often prophetic inspiration or wit and skill. This is also Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s Sun.

While I have already mentioned his unaspected Saturn in the sixth house of service, his academic career is almost a sextile away in the fifth shown by Jupiter with an opposition to his Mars in Taurus in the eleventh.  This is perhaps showing that he left one type of academic for his own individualized version as it has as its T-Square the seventh house where Mercury lives — highlighting his many books as he tries to inform people of the dangers lurking within the woke movement.

His Venus in Aquarius in the eighth suggests that a daughter of his has already been ambushed by the movement, and perhaps this is a personal reason for his great agitation.  I do not know but her square to Mars suggests that this is personal.

Biden’s Awakening of America

Polls claim that 50% of American approve of Biden’s opening the borders and support of Black Lives Matters and the Woke Movement as Joe Biden’s first 100 days aim to reshape and wake America. Whether that is surprise is another thing, considering he outpolled Barack Obama eight year ago and equaled Donald Trump’s 2016 statistics but when you have the media in your pocket, or is it the other way around?, everything is good. Corporate i.e. Multinational Wall Street, America, is not far behind applauding new taxes that would give them an edge, and lots of cheap labor in their mission to drive down middle class wages.

Covid in New Hampshire

  • April 1, 2021: New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) announced that all K-12 schools had to return students to full-time, in-person instruction by April 19., but he left open the of requesting remote learning.
  • April 8, 2021: Governor Sununu announced said all people, including residents of other states, would be eligible for a coronavirus vaccine on Monday, April 19. I guess in this case you just find a place offering it and say yes. Cost and/or fees was not mentioned. Residents 40 and older had been eligible since March 25 while residents 16 and older were scheduled to be eligible April 2 which is all faster than Biden’s mandates.

The weekly chart

While based in Concord the chart is proxy for the rest of the Union. The Natural Hours chart like Placidus, Topocentric and Koch does not have mathematically calculated house lines but instead are derived from the great circles passing through the ecliptics. The major house stellium is in the tenth which is the house of the president, the government and in the general sense national prestige. Alas it is heavily afflicted with lots of squares — of both types — oppositions and sesquiquadrates all critical of the tenth house activities suggesting the polling is not as reflective as the national agencies would like to suggest.

The major support for presidential policies is coming from Jupiter in Aquarius in the eighth or financial affairs with other countries. That is probably referring to us rejoining the Paris Climate Accords and the discussion of Yellen and Biden of a “global” minimum corporate tax which makes Europe and America happy but penalizes poor Asia and African countries who have already spoken out against it. Despite the latter’s protests, it will probably go through, as it helps offset his $1.7 trillion dollar New Green Deal infrastructure bill.

The Sabian Symbol I pulled for the week is partile the Sun at 28 Aries 50, the symbol for which is a “large audience rejoices in the disillusionment of the past.” This is echoing Senator Markey of Massachusetts’s statement that packing the Supreme Count with 4 more justices is the only way to stop “Trump and his people” from ever voicing discontent again. It is always heartening to see one’s elected officials be brazen in their contempt of the electorate–as the band plays on.

Universal Regiomontanus and Iceland’s 1783 Volcano

Professor Roberto Fantechi of Florence Italy created this one and called it the Universal Regiomontanus. It is suitable at any latitude which is important for those areas like Iceland that are near the Artic Circle. Iceland techically is a few degrees south, but that is enough to throw several house systems totally off kilter and be unusable (north of 60 seems to be the breaking point for most, though the rest come in at 66 which is the Artic Circle) for others. I guess based on the name, I could find no information other than the short attribution by the kiwi based, Janus group, that it is based on Regiomontanus and works anywhere.

The Icelandic Volcano, wrong time, in Professor Universal Regiomontanus format.
Pink is for the Universal Regiomontanus. The houses are fairly evenly spaced which makes reading a chart far easier than what the regular old Regiomontanus would give us. Unfortunately the chart does not print the house name, something I will have to fix, but in the meantime I’ve both color coded and noted the house systems. By the way, there is an interception on the chart but it is minor, hint, look at the fourth house, Virgo is intercepted as if of course Pisces in the above tenth.
The original Regiomontanus for the Icelandic volcano.
The older Regiomontanus which is obviously biased and rather difficult to read.

Yellow is for the older original Regiomontanus while our standard Morinus is in blue. Morinus held up well considering both its age and the latitude, but many not be acceptable for those who want the first house tied to the ascendant. If that’s your preference, then Universal Regi is a good choice for Artic astrologers. One way to get around large amount of interceptions is to use a “standard” non proportion wheel. Kepler calls that “equal house, equal zodiac”. This forces everything into 30 degree increments and you make Regiomontanus an equal house system but you still get the fourth-tenth house interception of the Universal Regi.

This chart is applying equal house, equal zodiac to the original Regiomontanus.
Regiomontanus in equal house, equal zodiac format. Nonetheless there is an interception in the fourth-tenth house and then another in the fifth and eleventh houses basically keeping the layout of the original Regio. Joanne Wickenburg 1 Ms. Wickenburg wrote “Your hidden Powers: Intercepted Signs and Retrograde Planets” c. 1992 for the American Federation of Astrologers. It is still available from them. Click here. [/mfn] author of the book on interceptions thinks that is great.

The bottom line.

The greatest reason for the Uni Regi is that you do charts heavily in the Artic Circle and do not want double interceptions and also want the first house tied to the ascendant. On the downside, I know only that Astrology-House’s Janus offers the Universal Regiomontanus. If you know of another, please drop a line in the comments. Thanks.

Ignatius Donnelly and the Icelandic Volcano

The 1783 Icelandic volcano was really around 8 am in the morning not 5 am.
My arbitrary pick of 5 am was incorrect. Further investigation shows that the volcano happened around 8am in the morning not 5am. I’m not updating the others as the time difference is immaterial there, this is just for those who are actually interesting in volcanic activity. Thanks.
Donnelly writes in his Atlantis, the Antediluvian World, 1 Congressman Donnelly wrote his book on Atlantic in 1882. It was published by Harper Brothers of New York and surprisingly is out of print. Luckily though we can still find it on Sacred-Texts that great repository of arcane and esoteric books. The link to the book is here and I heartily recommend it. This particular section on proof that Atlantis could have been sunk by an exceptionally strong volcano is here.

On June 8, 1783 Iceland was visited by convulsions more tremendous than any recorded in the modern annals of that country. About a month previous to the eruption on the main-land a submarine volcano burst forth in the sea, at a distance of thirty miles from the shore. It ejected so much pumice that the sea was covered with it for a distance of 150 miles, and ships were considerably impeded in their course. A new island was thrown up, consisting of high cliffs, which was claimed by his Danish Majesty, and named “Nyoe,” or the New Island; but before a year had elapsed it sunk beneath the sea, leaving a reef of rocks thirty fathoms under water. This earthquake destroyed 9,000 people out of a population of 50,000; twenty villages were consumed by fire or inundated by water, and a mass of lava thrown out greater than the entire bulk of Mont Blanc.”

I began wondering if this was true, and since I like doing eruptions, even though this one has no time, I decided to follow up on his comments. Forbes Magazine concurs in its online edition, it states that ” During the next eight months, an estimated 14 km³ (about 3.7 quadrillion gallons, enough to fill 330 feet deep valleys entirely) of lava poured out from 135 fissures and volcanic craters near the town of Klaustur. The lava from the fissures ended up covering an estimated 2,500 km² (965 sq mi) of land, which threatened to overrun not only many farms but also the entire town. The newly formed chain of volcanoes was named later Laki.”

Footnotes:

  1. Updated on April 11th to reflect the true time of the volcano only in the Morinus chart.

Easter Sunday 2021 in OK City

For this week, we find ourselves in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and we get the Ascendant of 07 Cancer 48, “In the imaginary land of rabbits, citizens dress to the nines and for a parade”. How à propos as this sounds like an Easter Parade. The week ahead chartwise seems to have an all clear signal too — if hay fever north node to Mars in the twelfth, does not get you. Tuesday when the Moon conjoins Saturn until Wednesday, when the Moon goes to Pisces at 4:30 PM, is an especially good time to catch up on appointments, doctor visits and other business matters. The next bump is the cazimi moon on Sunday around 10:30 PM EDT .

On a personal note, this is the blog’s 200th post. Thanks for reading.
