Point 2, Pars Fortuna

Point number two is the Part of Fortune, because of its importance of the relationship between a person’s luminaries.  This mathematical point shows a person’s general focus of existence.  To calculate your Part of Fortune click here.

Pars Fortuna tells the person’s emphasis in his life — fundamentally and biologically.  For while Mars gives the basic direction of your life, the Part of Fortune emphasizes it by clarifying it,  just as the moon moves away from the sun, creating a new horizon.  The Pars Fortune then is your horizon and through its  sign, house and symbolical degree shows the will’s focustdr

In TR’s chart the PoF is the eighth house, in Virgo. My nickname for Virgo is assimilation because Virgo has the particular and peculiar gift of absorbing and incorporating outside substances into the whole.  Think of how we assimilate or bring food into our system for nourishment.  Food outwardly is nothing we can use, but we can use it and transform it by a series of mechanical and chemical processes to make it something we can us.

Lego Blocks

Combining this idea of assimilation with the eighth house idea of regeneration and get the picture of someone ill taking in nourishment to get well again.  Let us add another idea in and that is of the 18th degree of Virgo that has the image of sharpness and we apply this to TR’s chart for a new picture of him having the focus in life of assimilating ideas and projects in sharp contrast with his own current self but he saw could help him become his new, regenerative, self.

The eighth house is where you live according to the ideas other people have of you and how you try to conform to those ideas which could be discordant with what you want to be or project.  For Roosevelt he wanted to project the image he was in touch with the innermost hopes and dreams of the American people — he was aligned to their interests.

Marc Edmund Jones

Looking at the Sabian Sabian symbol (Virgo 18) we read “Two giggling young girls are sitting facing each other, knees touching, working a Ouija board on their laps.”  This shows the touch between the realms visible and invisible and sheds a significant light upon the character of Theodore Roosevelt that he was sensitive to the things under the surface, or the future effect of present causation.

In viewing his personal history, TR started out assimilating everything in his life in a self-regenerative mode via a series of tete- a-tetes with experience. This meant almost anybody could visit the White House and find the President not only willing to talk to him about his interests but well-read on a variety of topics as well, so that the visitor could have a reporte with him on an equal basis.

Part 1 of this series is here.

The Part of Fortune is further discussed in Marc Jones’s unpublished Arabian Astrology, dated April 17, 1933.   The whole mss. deals with Jones discussion of John Gadbury’s (c. 1627)  parts, including the pars fortuna, and his reflection upon their validity.  He renamed many of them to what he thought more meaningful and match his four lines and departments.

In Arabian Astrology,  Jones  discusses  his preliminary idea for the Pars Fortuna being a “focus of the self in business,” a different idea than what he postulated here, ten years later in the Guild meeting though the calculation remained the same.  His original reasoning is a person (his Ascendant) + his feeling for life (the Moon) – his Will (the Sun) demonstrates by Symbol and aspect, his particular ability to succeed in business.

Jones felt Roosevelt’s Virgo 18, translated into how he mixed sales and politics so much that they became inseparable in his vision. Currently, this boosterism, is not popular in America, where the country is just a bit player on a much larger stage, and should be understood in its historic narrow context.

Point 1 Mars the energy center

What is the 15 point method?

Marc Edmund Jones put together for the student of the Sabian Assembly, The Fifteen Most Important Points in a Horoscope. He felt it was a dependable method that could help anyone go through a chart and create a general portrait of the person. He later expanded this to 16 points.

He was insistent that his method required an exact birth hour. If the astrologer rectifies the chart, then this new chart , must give its own clear testimony of the person, as one aspect depends upon another, and so on creating a unified portrait. There can be one striking thing like the singleton in a hemisphere or unaspected planet, but the chart should have few of these things, otherwise it does not stand as a whole.

Ostrich skeletal system

Ostrich atomy

Jean Léopold Nicolas Frédéric, Baron Georges Cuvier1, once remarked: “Show me a bone and I will identify the animal.” Jones said he thought the comment humorous until he took a class in comparative anatomy. The professor greeted me with a grudging cordiality; “Why are you, a philosophy major, doing over here on the science side?”

“Well,” I said, “philosophers have to talk about science sometimes and I want to know what I am talking about.”

He turned to address the group of us, all but me, on the way to become doctors. “You must work hard if you want to get A’s here,” the professor remarked. He told me how I could get into the laboratory at night, Sundays and work the hours. Finally, we sat down before the bone box, with the idea I could recognize anything he handed me. He began with the longest bone I ever saw.

“If it wasn’t so big,” I said, “I’d identify it as the femur of a bird . . .. but I suppose it’s a crazy hybrid.” He laughed: “Why don’t you stick to your guns? Did you ever hear of an ostrich?”

Marc Jones

Astrology duplicates this preposition every day. If you have skill enough, you can take any fragment of a chart and read the life from it. For practice we would take a torn quarter of a chart and find how much we could gather from just that. This is how I boiled down the technique.

Beginners always take the houses, and go around the chart completely, bringing out everything about personality first, then money, and so on. A more effective method is to just use the planets because then you are reading more dynamically because with the houses you are locked down and pinned into a reading ; i.e. it is becoming static. Better to just look at quadrants, like Ptolemy suggests, and see the geometric layout of the chart but read from the planets as they are the dynamic bodies that distribute the forces of actual living and experience, setting up the strains and stresses of life and create a basic complex. They articulate the forces of the universe and represent your distribution of this energy.

Demonstrating Teddy Roosevelt

To show this method, we will use the chart of President Theodore Roosevelt whom George MacCormack, a founder of the Guild, got the data rather directly from the Roosevelt family, and has done a lot of work upon it, so we can be rather sure of its accuracy.

Mars – the energy center

I begin with Mars because it has the most to do with activity. It represents how you throw off energy, fly off the handle, and move the hardest to get things done. It is also the planet closest to the earth. Mars is in the first house in Teddy Roosevelt’s chart, therefore it calls for unusual energy, which describes the native. Now let’s get a technique down for this proposition of reading from the planets. First look at each planet by what sign they are in, then by house and finally symbolic degree.

The justification for a use of these symbolical degrees is that they work. Here is something that baffles people. I remember the story in the Bible of the boy who was cured of blindness. The learned people came to him and said it was impossible. It just didn’t happen. The “medical books” said it couldn’t be done that way. This is my version of the story! The young man in the Bible narrative, who was a simple fellow, remarked: “What you say is very interesting. You are learned, gentlemen. I am convinced you are clever and know much more than I do. However, all I know is that once I was blind, and now I see.”3

And so, like that boy, we won’t go into a discussion of the symbolical degrees, but content ourselves with the fact they are something that works.

Critical Discrimination

Mars is at 17 Capricorn 49, or energy in the sign of critical discrimination. Since I have Mercury in Scorpio, I will give you many a nickname tonight, and I would suggest that you make your own when mine do not click. I have made them for myself to save time and effort, and I find them a great help. To me, Capricorn is the sign of “critical discrimination,” well illustrated by Teddy’s campaign against the “nature fakers.”

The Sabian degree for Capricorn 18 reads:

“From the proud new warship of Britannia, a token of her maritime power, flies the Union Jack in calm dignity. “

T.R. made the United States a first-class power, and he did it with the Navy. The symbol puts the case forward exactly. But what is a warship? It is any ship used as a weapon for combat; never for defense. It has dignity and represents the country that builds and floats it, and so too this man, with his personality and critical discrimination — the ability to distinguish two or more things from each other — was a man who, in everything he did, said: “We have to make this stand out, & make this dignified.”

howtolearn_x100

It was no different for himself.  He went out West and became a cowboy, and a good one. Not the kind they have on dude ranches–pretty boys that prance around and do nothing, but a real working cowboy who roped and broke horses.  He used these skills in the Rough Riders, the First Volunteer Calvary unit in the Spanish-American War.

When he was a sickly, scrawny youngster with squinty eyes, he was determined to be well, and he made himself over in the image of male virility and health by becoming a real “rough rider.” It shows all this by his first house and the sign and the degree of Mars.

Thus, you have the first salient point in a horoscope: Mars.

Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III

Joseph P. Kennedy III is Congressman of Massachusetts’s 4th district, Barney Frank’s old district, which runs from the Boston western suburbs to the state’s south coast, was picked to give the official Democratic Party response to President Trump’s State of the Union. His father, Robert Kennedy jr. was the Congressman for the Massachusetts 8th district making him the fifth generation Fitzgerald-Kennedy to go into the family business of American politics.

Joseph-Kennedy-III-wife-Lauren-Birchfield-Kennedy
JPK III and his wife Lauren Ann Birchfield.  They met at Harvard Law.  She is from Texas.

He was born October 4, 1980, nearly coinciding with his great great-grand-father, death on October 2, 1950. John P. Fitzgerald but called “Honey” Fitz, promised his constituency, Massachusetts 11th district, that a vote for him, would ensure that his Irish Catholic descendant would make it to the presidency. His grandson Jack Kennedy, filled that same seat thanks to Honey’s ardent campaigning. While grandfather did not live to see his daughter Rose’s son make good on that promise, Jack Kennedy right after his inauguration, told the cheering fans back home that indeed, “The promise was fulfilled.”

Ah the personalities that make up American politics.

Rectifying Joe

Joseph P We rectified him to 19 Capricorn with the keyword of “Ability” and putting his Neptune in the twelfth house of big government. His granduncle had that visionary planet in the tenth. house just like his granduncle, the late President John F. Kennedy, but Joe has it in Sagittarius like his grandfather Bobby, and opposite the Senator; both have it intercepted and both were bundle types. Actually the comparisons between the two men is striking.

The family business

The septile in the younger Kennedy’s chart picks up the kinship to his grandfather, while the preponderance of Libra in the ninth house, shows how much his career choice was steered by his family’s encouragement.

Download JPK and RJK biwheel here.

The August Senatorial Primary

Based on his primary running again Senator Ed Markey, one has wonder if the misspelling of Worcester, a major Democratic city outside of Boston, was not unintentional — I do not think his heart was in the race. That said, he did win both the town and county, thanks to swift maneuvers from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) but with Venus at Regulus (and conjunct Trump’s ascendant which made it an interesting choice for the rebuttal), does not give him much of the stomach for the killing fields of politics.

I suspect he is happy being a Congressman, at least for now and at 40 he has time to watch how best to use all that he commands. In the meantime, he likes his job and seems to prefer time with his wife and growing family (currently the Kennedy’s have only daughter Eleanor).

Neptunian dreams

His ascendant Capricorn 19 , shows that while an idealist he has a strong commitment to his family’s liberal ideology. His Mercury in the tenth house in Scorpio, is not the best placement for someone who much talk off the cuff and makes rely on teleprompters and speech writers. But his Uncle Ted, the Senator from Massachusetts, had a similar handicap, and polished his delivery so it was forceful and pointed, relying on his superb retinue of speech writers to write the message.

The Senator’s package was so successful that his career soared after the 1980 DNC convention for the reelection of Jimmy Carter, that many felt Ted had stolen Carter’s thunder in his concession speech. Rousing and passionate, the final lines of “the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die” got thunderous applause and Barack Obama liked the idea he bestowed it on 3.6 million chain migration children when he created his “Dreamers Act” because they are “just like us”. Trump not missing a beat, mentioned it in his State of Union changing the emphasis that “Americans are dreamers too.”

Venusian charm

With several planets in Libra, in the ninth house of legislature and law but that ruler, propitiously in the seventh house, is intercepted. Joe’s bundle temperament type, makes him rely on himself than those around him a sharp contrast with older Kennedy’s exuberances. Still both generations do have that determined “intensity” but with Joe it is more like slow smolder.

But he is a Kennedy and that counts for a lot, at least in Massachusetts. Whie the the two planets that contain his bundle — the Moon and Neptune — are more suited to Mohandas Gandhi than an American politician, Joe has the ambition to (Mars in the tenth) to make it all come together, when he is ready to pull it all together.

C184 Forever Diana, Princess of Wales

The header shot is of Princess Diana and her two sons, William and Henry.  Below are her wedding shoes and her and Prince Charles on her wedding day, July 29, 1981.  She was twenty years old.

She was born on July 1st, 1961 at 7:45 GMT at Sandringham Castle.  Her Ascendant at 18 Sagittarius is  a common fire sign ruled by Jupiter, making her a frank, friendly woman who wins friends easily and rather androgynous in appearance. The description of “hail fellow well met” describes the archetypal Sagittarian.

diana.png

                                  Like mother like daughter

Her North Node conjunct Regulus at Leo 28¹ suggesting that she had a noble bearing throughout her life.  Her Sun and Mercury are nearly conjunct in Cancer giving her warm personable appeal that really shone when she was with her sons but it is inconjunct her Moon in Aquarius with another sextile to her Ascendant.  This is her first yod and the more personal of the two creating an apex at the Seventh – Eighth house cusp that is obviously her marriage to Prince Charles and her liaison with Dodi Fayed.

This yod poses problems for Diana though. On one hand she was a woman of immense privilege and wealth with servants all around her waiting to be called. On the other, there are many stories of Diana refusing nannies for her boys and wanting to do the domestic chores of a regular Mum, but being a royal consort with outside responsibilities made that difficult.   As Jupiter, her Sun’s ruler, is conjunct Saturn in the first house and at  one of the feet of her yod, Diana felt oppressed by her older husband & the constant pressure of paparazzi so that she was unable to cut loose and have fun.

kydd5_1411907c.jpg
Frances Shand-Kydd

This aspect hints at the karmic problems between her own mother and father, Frances and John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer’s marriage that fell into the same trap. Unhappy after having five children (Diana, Charles, Sarah, Jane and John), Born Frances Ruth Burke Roche the same day that King George V died, January 20th, 1936, (see her chart below)  left her husband for  Peter Shand Kydd, the heir to a British wallpaper fortune in 1967.  Diana, her eldest,  was six years old.

frances shand kydd.png

The Kydds were married in 1969, but Frances did not receive custody of her children because she had abandoned them. This made the relationship between mother & daughter frosty, though as Diana matured, the two women got closer.

                                         The people’s Princess

Princess Diana has another yod  from her  Neptune in Tenth to her Saturn in the First creating an apex this time an apex in the Sixth House of work and labour.  Indeed Diana was the first royal bride to have been employed before her engagement at the Young England School as a kindergarten teacher — perfect for her Aquarian Moon trine her Cancerian Sun; her daughter in law, Catherine Middleton, was the first with a university degree. This second yod though creates the image of a “people’s princess”  — an approachable and down to earth person within the British Royalty that was publicly accessibly  (Eleventh House and her Ascendant) and people all over the globe responded with adoration.

Diana and her Mum

Princess Diana’s temperament type is similar to another woman who married a wealthy, older prestigious man, Melania Trump, a See-Saw that becomes a Fan Handle² because it has a Grand Trine with a Kite configuration..  It is that Kite that was what made Diana so charismatic and memorable as it is created out of her Fixed Grand Cross, another aspect that adds depth, and sorrow to her chart.

The Diana Dodi memorial at Harrods erected by his father.

Princess Diana died in an automobile accident fleeing from paparazzi in a tunnel Paris, France  on 31 August 1997 with her companion Dodi Fayed; she was 36.

Footnotes:

  1. Regulus at 29 Leo (Diana’s North Node)  is sextile her Mercury in the sixth depicting how much her working life was being a spokeswoman for the Royal Family. It creates a yod at 29 Capricorn that is reinforced by being the same apex between her and her mothers chart.
  2. The Hyperion symbol is of “clouds above a mountain top, ” and was indicative of Diana’s legacy as she showed the world her belief in the mystical meeting of heaven (royalty) and their higher purpose on earth.   Alas as it is also a critical degree, as E. C. Matthews notes that it gives a melancholic note to the native’s life.
  3. Marc Jones discusses the fanhandle obliquely in his texts, it was Robert Jansky in his book, Planetary Patterns, that delineated it as a recognizable pattern and we have adopted it. Jansky btw, was not an Assembly member but wrote his books with such input.

Antonio Gramsci, Father of Italian Communism

gramsci.png

Gramsci’s rectified chart.

Gramsci’s ascendant is 29 Aries, that Dr. Gordon, calls an “independent and domineering disagreeable character” one who stands in his own in his insistence of being correct.  “Through his overbearing nature stands to become a social outcast and at some point in time sustains great loses through ostracism.”  Maybe, but in Europe he became a folk hero.  There are several Marxist sites devoted to Gramsci, one at the Marxists International Archive, and the other at the International Gramsci Society

Benito Mussolini’s fascists arrested Gramsci and imprisoned him (1926) because they were nationalists and he was an internationalist. At his trial the fascist prosecutor argued, “We must stop his brain from working for 20 years.” In prison, despite rigorous censorship, Gramsci carried out an extraordinary and wide-ranging historical and theoretical study of Italian society and strategies for change. Plagued with poor health in the 1930s, he died  after being released from prison for medical care.

Extracts of Gramsci’s prison writings were published for the first time in the mid-20th century; the complete Quaderni del carcere (Prison Notebooks) appeared in 1975. Many of his propositions became a fundamental part of Western Marxist thought and influenced the post-World War II strategies of communist parties in the West. His reflections on the cultural and political concept of hegemony (notably in southern Italy), on the Italian Communist Party itself, and on the Roman Catholic Church were particularly important. The letters he wrote from prison also were published posthumously as Lettere dal carcere (1947; Letters from Prison).  — Encyclopaedia Britannica

His Ascendant opposes Uranus in Libra suggesting that Signore Gramsci was ill-tempered but energetic.  He may have been personally shy because of his game leg, & that shows up as well here.  All of this would have contributed to his philosophy of total freedom from social mores, and restrictive laws from both the Church and the State because Uranus in the house of relationships, and Gramsci did not want them on traditional terms.  Patience was not his strong suit and like his adversary Mussolini, he was brutish and manipulative.

The point focus of this opposition is his Part of Fortune in the tenth house at 04 Aquarius highlighting his chameleon like personality and thwarted ego.

  • His line of vitality (sun-moon) is absent highlight how he squandered his talents and opportunities in needless in-fighting.
  • His line of motivations (jupiter-saturn)  is absent.
  • His line of efficiency (mars-venus) is absent.
  • His line of social significance (uranus-neptune) is inconjunct showing  his heightened awareness of a world-wide need for “one or another type of socioeconomic change.”
    • As this is his only aspect of self-ordering, this works almost as a focal determinator in shaping his focus and life.

Gramsci is a splash temperament type.

The New York Times debunks Full Moons & Earthquakes

Trilobites

On Dec. 26, 2004, a magnitude 9.1 earthquake ruptured the ocean floor off the west coast of Sumatra. The resulting tsunami killed nearly 230,000 people in 14 countries, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in history. It occurred during a full moon.

The earthquake that devastated Chile in 2010 and the Great Alaskan Earthquake in 1964 also happened on full moons. But a new study published in Seismological Research Letters finds that the connection is nothing but folklore.

To analyze the supposed link, Susan Hough, a seismologist at the United States Geological Survey, scrutinized 204 earthquakes of magnitude 8 or greater over the past four centuries. She then matched those earthquakes to the lunar calendar and found that no more occurred during a full or new moon than on any other day of the lunar cycle.

A crevasse in the middle of a street in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 27 1964, following the Great Alaskan Earthquake; this  also took place during a full moon.

“It’s not some wild crazy idea,” Dr. Hough said, but the gravitational effect is vanishingly small and only occurs under narrow circumstances, so it would never translate into a pronounced force — certainly not one that can be seen in a calendar or used to make predictions.

In a study by Satoshi Ide, a seismologist at the University of Tokyo, and his colleagues made headlines when it suggested that the number of high-magnitude earthquakes (like the one that occurred in Sumatra) also increases slightly as tidal stresses rise.

Dr. Hough’s study though “debunks the prevalent superstition some people have that the moon tells us something about the danger,” said John Vidale, a seismologist at the University of Southern California who directs the Southern California Earthquake Center….until of course the next study another time.

The daring-do of the Robber from Zutphen

The T-Square has a rather comedic outlet at Jupiter in Libra 04, again right on the cusp of the creative fifth house — it would seem that our Robber enjoyed his work. So what brought him down? No doubt he did not pay attention to expanding his purvey by travelling would be a bad move – for while Jupiter is sextile the Moon in Sagittarius encourages that idea of moving, it is opposite his first house and square his midheaven at 07 Pisces telling us, but it should have been him, that leaving his cozy home environment would be a mistake as he would literally be a fish out of water.

bank robber DutchThis chart comes from Alan Leo in his November 1909 magazine. He notes that Saturn is at 01 Cancer right near the Ascendant at 08 on the cusp of the second house of resources. Since it is in its fall, we wonder does that mean that appropriating others resources will be their calling and not working hard at making their own? Perhaps, particularly as it is opposite Pallas in Capricorn, suggesting that this is a poor use of his talents.

Leo reports he was caught on a caper in Spain.

Declassifying Kennedy, something to do during lockdown

JFK_Birth_Certificate.jpg

While waiting the JFK assassination files, commonly called the Warren Commission findings, to be released, I decided to look at his birth chart, wondering what we may find. We all need something to do during this lockdown. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting bored.

The JFK Presidential Library says that all health and birth data for JFK are closed, that’s probably because of the Commission, but they do have on their site his birth certificate stating he was born at home. Oddly enough, it was not created until 26 years old.  Astro.com gives a 15:00 time based on Jack’s “memory” and is rated an A by Lois Rodden.  It is wild as she gives no one that much leeway in the ratings.

We will use that date and time.  Kennedy gets a 20 degree Libra Ascendant rectifying his location to his exact home address at 83 Beals Street, Brookline, Massachusetts, which is our header image.  When he was ten years old, the Kennedy’s moved to New York City.

He has little fire in his chart,  just Neptune in the Tenth House right next to the Midheaven, suggesting that he was a mystic and dreamer about his role as president for his country.  The low fire may also because he had Schmidt’s syndrome, a very rare combination of Addison’s disease and diabetes. .

Saturn rules the adrenal glands which is square the Libra (ruled by Venus often implicated in the sugar disease) ascendant. His Saturn, while near the tenth house that the planet rules, is actually in the ninth house that is ruled by Jupiter in the seventh. The ringed planet is in its detriment at 29 Cancer 10 (symbol ” A son of the American Revolution” à propos as all presidents are, but here with the meaning of “smug superiority,” perhaps hinting that he was born with a silver spoon — his family was wealthy thanks to Joseph sr. being a bootlegger during Prohibition.

Opposite the great malefic is his Part of Fortune at 29 Capricorn 22 “a secret business meeting,” highlighting a gift for clever planning (saving his men during WWII got him a medal) and wise administration. Mrs. Diane Roche calls this symbol a “Power Play,” while Dr. Gordon writing in 1929 says it is found in “commanders, leaders and presidents.’

Charubel says that 30 Capricorn is an “arrow in flight” and has an aspiring and ambitious nature impelled by the strength of a force behind him (his father Joseph Sr.)  For the attainment of high or long-term projects.  That fits as becoming President was not a sudden whimsy — it takes long determined planning and wise administration of one’s image.  Charubel states that “heredity and training count for more than what is usual in this case by ultimately it is a degree of “decline.

trained-to-kill

In the meantime, President Trump is supposed to be releasing the Kennedy papers. The UK Independent differs from Roger Stone (see the book cover to the right) on what happened. The Dallas Morning News, thinks that the CIA (where the Bush’s learned their trade) may try for a last ditch injunction against releasing the data.  It seems that the DMN got this one as despite the hoopla it did not happen.

While waiting for the news to break, try to get a hold of Who’s Who In The JFK Assassination: An A to Z Encyclopedia and learn who are the characters. Or peruse the Mary Ferrell Foundation site and draw some of your own conclusions.  The papers, btw, are supposed to be released on Mrs. Ferrell’s birthday. That too did not happen. And finally there is Six Minutes in Dallas by Josiah Thompson that gives a mind numbing account of the assassination as he proves that Oswald could not be a lone gunmen.
