Chef Anthony Bourdain

Here are some key facts:

  • Anthony Michael Bourdain was born in 1956 in New York. His father was a classical music executive with Columbia Records and of French descent.
    • His mother was a New York Times copy editor and Jewish descent.
    • He raised as an agnostic.
  • He married his high-school sweetheart, Nancy Putkoski, from 1985 to 2005. In 2007 he married Italian born Ottavia Busia, a former MMA fighter; his daughter Ariane, was born later that year. They were still married at the time of his demise but he was dating another Italian, Asia Argento.

                                        Cooking the Chart

The popular birth time is 8:35 am but we have slightly rectified it to 8:10 am to work better with his biography.  There is no hospital in Manhattan specified so we picked Midtown.
This gives him an Ascendant of 06.37 Leo showing he has many talents that will propel him to the top of his profession, and is outspoken about his viewpoints taking as his guide the prevailing winds.
He has a water grand trine, from Mars in Pisces in the eighth house to Saturn in the fourth in Scorpio to Leo 01 so this is out of quadrature, but so close to Cancer we are allowing it.  This is a rather unfortunate trine and shows Bourdain’s abrupt tendency to jump from one bad habit to another, historically all three planets are malefics.  He was always influenced by his peers (he got into drugs in the 1980s because everyone around him was doing it, went to cooking school when it was the rage and hung himself when a friend Kate Spade did it).

The Mars in the eighth suggests he would die by violent means.  The Saturn in the fourth highlights the influence of his father and paternal grandparent, who were natives of France:  he specialized in their cuisin and “returned” to his patristic homeland to die.  Uranus in the twelfth highlights his inability to deal with changes in his public life (his company was bankrupt) and personal stress — he was not divorced from his second wife,  and his girlfriend had broken up with him unable to handle his moods.

Bourdain was a smart fellow shown by his Mercury and Sun in different houses and signs, so his ego and logic were not  always in tandem:  but that is not a bad thing, as it makes him independent allowing his logic to lead the way and force him from to break with his too publicity driven ego.

Bourdain natal is inner blue and transiting demise is outer grey.

Bourdain died in Kaysersberg, France on June 8th.  The time of death is unknown as he found only after he missed breakfast.  It’s possible it is far earlier than our 5:32 am, so the angles and chart are approximate.  Notice that the radix Saturn is square his transiting Part of Fortune ( symbol the Insignia of an esoteric brotherhood) and Mars (an integrated circuit) on the seventh house cusp.   The latter aspect is thought by French astrologer Choisnard to be important at deaths.

Guillaume Depardieu

I caught the musical biography of Marin Marais, (baptized March 31, 1656, Paris—died Aug. 15, 1728, Paris), the French composer & virtuoso of the viola da gamba (a musical instrument similar to the cello), in the French movie Tous les matins du monde (1991; “All the Mornings of the World” directed by Alain Corneau) where Depardieu fils plays the younger Marais and Depardieu père plays the elder.   Watching it, I wondered what happened to Depardieu fils; I looked up his chart.  He died October 13, 2008 from virulent pneumonia after many years of battling disease, heroin and alcohol addictions. It is a pity.

                                  Guillaume’s Natal

Guillaume was the first child and eldest son born April 7, 1971 at around 11:30 am in Paris to Élisabeth Guignot & Gérard Xavier Marcel  Depardieu. His parents separated in 1992 and divorced in 96, but Guillaume accused his father of being a money-obsessed alcoholic absent from his childhood. The effect of Gerard on his chart is compelling and shows up as Aries 16, an untrammeled egoist semisextile Saturn — the father’s unfortunate influence on the son as harsh, cold and overbearing hovering on the twelfth house — a remote force that is more public than private. This Saturn — 21 Taurus — is square his Dragon’s Tail at Leo 21 in the second house highlighting the son’s aping of his father’s addictions but also searching for love and money via sex.

His mother effect is prominent in his chart — if only for his ascendant at 22 Cancer (HS) “a poet writing secret thoughts” with the keyword of Sensibility.

His heroin usage was unfortunate, as it compromised his already tricky immune system that  Neptune in the sixth in Sagittarius, had undermined, and encouraged the watery sphere to bestow him with  hard to cure viral diseases.  Neptune conjunct Jupiter gives him a love of speed & recklessness, and opposite Saturn, suggests that these antics were a way of attracting his father’s attention, but  also point that he was high on something when he suffered a motorcycle crash in 1995 — you see the results in his performance in Balzac’s classic, La Duchesse de Langeais.  That led to another stroke of bad luck resulting in 17 operations to stem a gangrenous infection but failed.

The finale

When he died in October 2008 his father agents referred to Guillaume’s viral pneumonia as “lightning quick”–see the slow going but crisis laden Pluto trine his natal fast moving Moon. Guillaume was a Splash temperament type, a setup that works well for an actor as they must be very attuned to human idiosyncrasies.

With his Sun in the tenth, he was much taken by parents careers and wanted to follow them. As a Splash temperament type, Guillaume was a natural for acting, as it  attunes its natives to human idiosyncrasies (Cancer 22 helped there

When he died, from a bout of virulent pneumonia, his father agents referred to Guillaume’s illness as “lightning quick”.    Pére was obviously referring to the slow Pluto transit at the seventh house cusp trine fils natal faster moving Moon in the third that led to the lethal crisis..

Much was written that son and father reconciled at the end. The transiting Sun in the fourth conjunct Mercury 07.56 opposite Guillaume’s natal Sun and conjunct his natal Mercury in the eleventh does not support that.  His obit from the Guardian is here.

Really Hazel Birch

This is a chart of a real person whom we shall call Hazel.  Her surname, also fictitious, is because Hazel is a shrub of the birch family.  Our header picture is of a hazel eye. Hazel’s birthime is unknown so this is a perspective chart that we rectified with her help.2018-08-04_23-49-46

Ms. Birch has a grand trine in her chart making her a  locomotive temperament type. The Northwestern side of the chart is the most open area  of it, so we find that she is rather unsure of herself but exudes a lot of cock sureness to make up for a nagging sense of inadequacy.  Her opposition of the Sun at 28 Gemini to Uranus in the 4th at 29 Sagittarius that is partile to Saturn,  shows she has a hard time with technology at HOME and that seems to be to her detriment despite her Mercury in its essential Lord in the tenth because she cannot “sell herself.”

                                                                   Hazel Sous Vide

Despite her ambition, she is most comfortable with young girls (Gemini 18 SS a large archaic volume the symbol of obligation and guidance) as the teacher-mommy-den mother  role (semisextile Jupiter in the 9th at 24 Taurus SS an Indian with scalps highlighting one’s personal prowess). All of this works as Ms. Birch is a piano teacher for an entourage of young school age girls.

But then we run into the problem of Uranus in the 4th square Mars in the 7th an unfortunate combination as this gives Hazel the tendency to play with FIRE from unusual sources in the house — hopefully she has fire extinguishers there as well. With both Uranus and Saturn partile and Neptune conjunct in the fifth, she may have a hobby of sculpting plexiglas, or an interest in the current fad of sous vide  — similar to the old vacuumized Banquet bags of the 60’s and 70’s only now with a cool name.

Nor does it help that she Pluto at 10 Scorpio, its essential ruler and is also her Part of Fortune.  Its SS is “a fellowship supper” telling us she may be naive in handling fire, and since it is square its Scorpion mate of Mars at  17.20 Pisces, (SS “a gigantic tent”  marking over exuberance in entertainment) hot water may not be all that figurative for what she gets herself into.accident hazel birch.png

                                                                            Hazel Burns

On July 19th, in her home, (time and place are approximate),  Hazel was making coffee, nothing wild at all, on her camp stove, and got burns on her thighs (Sagittarius) and lower abdomen (Scorpio).  Cupido, the asteroid not the TNP, was opposite transiting Pluto at 30 Cancer, getting here a rather wide orb, and showing the worry of  skin cosmetcs.  Another asteroid  is Leo 3 conjunct the travelling Sun at 28 Cancer of PALLAS ATHENA perhaps showing off on she does this for their edification.  This show and tell resulted in unleashing PANDORA at 9.34 Aquarius conjunct the transiting Mars and South Nodes and trine travelling Ceres, Venus and Psyche (11 Scorpio 47).  The last asteroid makes us wonder did her family camp a lot that she reliving old memories?  Nostalgia at 3.15 Aries trine her natal Sun suggests yes, but we do not know if that is her childhood family or her current one.
Focus on the black boxes on the biwheel adding in the asteroids as you need.  We of course,  know that you join us in wishing her the best.  Insights are welcome.
