2016 Oakland’s Ghost Ship Fiasco

The trial against the two men who ran theGhost Ship” warehouse where a 36 died in a fire in Oakland, California ended Thursday with a mistrial for one of the defendants and a full acquittal for the other.

           Not fit for human habitation

Oakland had declared the warehouse unfit for habitation but Derrick Alameda and Max Harris saw it as a way to make easy money renting to artists at below market prices.

There were n fire sprinklers had been installed or lighted exit signs put up by the Duo so when partygoers who tried to flee by descending the narrow, unstable makeshift front stairs from the second floor couldn’t move fast enough to escape.

Prosecutors contended the defendants committed nine violations of Oakland’s fire code, including not obtaining permits for assembly, storing vehicles and failing to provide fire sprinklers or fire alarms. Police showed up on multiple occasions in calls to the warehouse, and video from their body camera footage showed Almena telling them no one lived inside.

The first edition of the Sabian Earth Newsletter

                The inaugural issue of SEN

The Sabian Earth Newsletter was a publication that highlighted Marc Jones’s techniques.   It was a success in spirit but not format and 40 days after its publication, the Sabian Earth website was created.  After four years of work, that was replaced by this current site, Celestiololgy.

The title was a nod to the small Yahoogroup, Sabian Earth, that really was the forerunner of the Sabian Earth and Celestiology websites.  It had about five  members.  I asked all the member to submit something to the Newsletter but most were bashful and balked but M.K. Saladin, a senior Sabian member,   became intererested as well.  Mo decided to take on the Martin Luther chart from Jones’s How to Learn Astrology, the first of his many astrological books.

The Gunpowder Plot & Martin Luther

Mo’s choice was unusual because Sabian Earth, as it name suggests was just a mundane astrology group, but his reasoning was that Martin Luther was pivotal to Marc’s decision to originally become a Presbyterian minister, and as an admirer who had met the man way back in the Seventies, thought it an appropriate gesture for someone he holds in high regard.

Guy Fawkes & the Gunpowder Plot

The original debut of the website was as a Sabian Assembly membership only newsletter where I discussed the nursery rhyme for Guy Fawkes Day. I looked for astrological clues about why the famous Gunpowder Plot went awry. The film V for Vendetta brought the old poem back to mind. Reception was mixed, and Martha Rose Rhine, the only living member of the Assembly who was a friend of Dr. Jones and his family recommended as student projects are “self-bestowed” and she was highly impressed by the effort, that I make a website for it to get a larger audience. I followed her audience and the original Sabian Earth website was formed, on December 16, 2016. That was succeeded by this one, Celestiology, on November 5, 2019.

The other major article was M.K. Saladin’s discussion of what is the right birth chart for Reverend Martin Luther, the first chart in Marc Jones’s inaugural book, How to Learn Astrology. It has been a puzzle for a long time, and many attempted deciphering it. It took us even with modern ephemeris, but no computer software, a while to decipher, but finally it was Mo Saladin who cracked it.

Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot poem

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli’ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s providence, he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and a burning match.
Holla boys, Holla boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hooray

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November
